However, some diffuse type PAVMs can only be seen at the microscopic level, neither by a chest plain film nor a computed tomography. A 12-year-old girl had symptoms of cyanotic lips and exercise intolerance for seven years without a definite diagnosis despite several examinations. Another 7year-old girl was incidentally noted to have lip cyanosis when crying during her hospitalization for a crushed finger. These two patients were suspected to have diffuse type PAVMs and lung perfusion scans confirmed the diagnosis.

Diffuse Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformation in Children: Essential Value of Contrast Echocardiography in Diagnosis
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) are abnormal communications between pulmonary arteries and pulmonary veins, and most commonly congenital in nature. Although rare, it is an important consideration in cyanotic patients of unknown cause. We report 3 cases with diffuse PAVM in children with different clinical manifestations and initial diagnosis was made by transthoracic contrast echoc...
متن کاملPulmonary Arteriovenous Malformation Surgery in a Pregnant Woman: A Case Report
Background and purpose: Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) are lung lesions that affect most of the periphery of the lower lobes, and are manifested by dyspnea, hemoptysis, and hemothorax. Pregnancy is one of the conditions in which these malformations appear due to hemodynamic changes and hormonal factors such as increased levels of estrogen. This paper presents the case of a pregna...

The case history is presented of a male infant who was thought to have idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) at 3 months of age. Subsequently the PAH decreased unexpectedly and diffuse pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) were seen at 6.9 years of age for the first time. Hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia type 1 (HHT1) related to an endoglin mutation was diagnosed. At 10...

متن کاملCoil Embolotherapy of Unilateral Diffuse Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformations in a Nineteen-Year-Old Woman
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare vascular malformations of the lung that usually led to a notable risk of serious and life-threatening complications. There is considerable debate about the best management of strategies for the group of patients with diffuse AVMs. Several therapeutic options have been reported for management of this abnormality among which coil embolization ...
